7 Vegan Pizza Inspirations you have to try

On the occasion of Veganuary, I would like to show you seven different vegan pizza inspirations in this post. More and more people pursue a vegan lifestyle or at least take a little break from meat and animal products from time to time. Since pizza is one of the favorite dishes of people out there, vegan pizzas obviously can not be missing. I want to prove to you that a pizza can taste great without cheese, ham and salami with this post.

For the underlying pizza dough recipe, I’d recommend to use the recipe for the Neapolitan pizza. Incidentally, all the dough recipes on my blog are vegan because they contain, in addition to the basic ingredients flour, yeast, water, salt at most sugar or olive oil.

Marinara

The pizza Marinara is of course one of the classics among vegan pizzas because it is simple but delicious at the same time. What it takes for a delicious pizza marinara? Not much, as you can see below!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: 400 degrees for a pizza oven, 250 degrees for a regular household oven (feel free to use a pizza stone if you have one).
  • Prepare the tomato sauce according to instructions.
  • Finely slice the garlic clove.
  • Shape the pizza dough, spread the tomato sauce and garlic slices on the dough. Then drizzle the olive oil over the dough in a spiral pattern.
  • Pull the dough onto the slider and place in the oven.
  • Bake the pizza: in the pizza oven for about 2 minutes, in the home oven for about 7 – 10 minutes.
  • Finally, drizzle a little olive oil and a few basil leaves over the pizza.

Vegan Margherita

Besides a marinara, of course, the queen, the Margherita pizza, shouldn’t be missing. One of the crucial ingredients of the Margherita is the cheese or mozzarella. But no worries, there are also suitable alternatives for the vegan version. In this case I have used the vegan organic alternative product Mozzarisella from the brand Mozzarisella. Mozzarisella is a vegetable preparation based on sprouted whole grain rice, which is also free of soy and gluten. Main ingredients include the rice preparation, water, cold pressed coconut oil, sunflower oil, lemon juice. You can eat it both cold and hot. In terms of taste, I can tell the difference between the vegan version and a non-vegan mozzarella, but for plant lovers it is definitely a tasty alternative that also melts nicely on the pizza. In doing so, I recommend cutting the pieces a little smaller so that they melt better.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: to 400 degrees for a pizza oven, to 250 degrees for a regular household oven (feel free to use a pizza stone if you have one).
  • Prepare the tomato sauce according to the instructions.
  • Shape the pizza dough, spread the tomato sauce and vegan mozzarella on the dough.

Pizza with cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, hummus and vegan feta

Vegan Pizza Cauliflower
Pizza Cauliflower, Cherry Tomatoes, Hummus & Vegan Feta

Most of the time we only find white cauliflower in the supermarkets and rarely cauliflower of other colors. That’s why I was totally thrilled when I recently found this wonderful purple and yellow cauliflower. Don’t worry, the colors may seem artificial, but they are 100% natural: the purple varieties contain anthocyanins, which also color red cabbage. The orange-yellow hues highlight carotene, which is found in carrots, for example. For this pizza, I opted for an oriental-inspired combination. I marinated the cauliflower florets in olive oil, salt and pepper and roasted them in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes. I used homemade hummus as the sauce base for the pizza. I baked the pizza with the hummus, roasted cauliflower, marinated cherry tomatoes and vegan feta and garnished it with pomegranate seeds after baking. As you can imagine, the pizza was an incredible flavor explosion!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: to 400 degrees for a pizza oven, to 250 degrees for a regular household oven (feel free to use a pizza stone if you have one).
  • Shape the pizza dough, then spread the hummus, cauliflower florets, cherry tomatoes and vegan feta on the dough.
  • Pull the dough onto the slider and place in the oven.
  • Bake the pizza: in the pizza oven for about 2 minutes, in the household oven for about 7 – 10 minutes.
  • Finally, add a few pomegranate seeds over the pizza.

  • Pull the dough onto the peel and place in the oven.

Vegan New York Style Pizza with grilled vegetables

Vegan New York Style Pizza

A Neapolitan style pizza is classically soft and foldable in consistency. However, I find thin and crispy pizzas just as delicious. The New York Style Pizza is perfectly made for this! The dough doesn’t need to be made any differently than a Neapolitan style pizza, just baked longer at a lower temperature. For the toppings, I opted for a “white pie” in this case, which is a pizza without tomato sauce as a base. The base here is vegan grated cheese accompanied by delicious grilled vegetables. With the vegetables you can obviously give free rein to your creativity.

Ingredients

  • 1 dough ball (based on the recipe for a Neapolitan pizza)
  • 50 gr vegan grated cheese
  • 1/2 handful of zucchini, cut into very thin slices
  • 1/2 handful of mushrooms, cut into very thin slices
  • 1/2 handful onions, cut into very thin rings

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: to 400 degrees if you have a pizza oven, to 250 degrees if you have a regular household oven (feel free to use a pizza stone if you have one).
  • Shape the pizza dough, then spread the grated cheese and grilled vegetables on the dough.
  • Pull the dough onto the slider and place in the oven.
  • Bake the pizza: in the pizza oven for about 2 minutes, in the household oven for about 7 – 10 minutes.
  • Finally, add a few pomegranate seeds over the pizza.

Vegan Hot BBQ Chicken Detroit Style Pizza

Since we’ve only presented the classic “round” pizzas so far, I would also like to introduce you to a vegan Detroit Style Pizza. The Detroit Style is mainly about the cheese crust. With vegan cheese substitutes, some argue whether they actually can compete with the original ones. That’s why I was even more excited to see how a vegan Detroit Style Pizza would come out! I used a vegan grated cheese as a substitute, which is now offered by various manufacturers. In addition, there were vegan chunks, a homemade BBQ sauce and a likewise homemade jalapeños mint hot sauce, And what can I say? It just tasted awesome, a pure flavor explosion! The cheese melted well, the crust was crispy and tasted really delicious! This Detroit Style pizza proves that vegan cheese substitutes don’t have to hide behind animal products!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees at least 30 minutes before baking (ideally preheat with pizza stone, the preheating time should then be at least 45 minutes).
  • Spread the vegan grated cheese generously along the edges of the pan and on the dough.
  • Then spread the BBQ sauce and vegan chunks on the dough.
  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • After baking, remove the pan from the oven. Let the pizza rest in the pan for 1-2 minutes, meanwhile spread the jalapeños-mint hot sauce on the pizza drop by drop.
  • Then, using a spatula or thin knife, carefully run it along the crust and loosen the pizza from the edge of the pan. Then, using the spatula or a thin spatula, remove the pizza from the pan and put it on a cooling rack. Let the pizza rest there for 1 minute and then place it on a wooden board. Then cut the pizza and serve.

What follows a hearty main course? That’s right, a sweet dessert! That’s why a sweet vegan pizza is a must! Vegan is not a problem in this case because there are now many vegan options for sweet spreads such as vegan chocolate creams, you only need to look in well-stocked supermarkets or organic supermarkets. What other ingredients do you need? Not much! I baked the dough in the oven and then topped it with the vegan chocolate spread, banana slices and chopped pistachios. Super easy and super delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 dough ball (based on the recipe for a Neapolitan pizza)
  • 30 gr vegan chocolate cream
  • 1 banana, cut into thin slices
  • 1 handful of chopped pistachio nuts (other nuts are also possible, of course)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: to 400 degrees if you have a pizza oven, to 250 degrees if you have a regular household oven (feel free to use a pizza stone if you have one).
  • Cut the banana into thin slices.
  • Shape the pizza dough and bake in the oven: in a pizza oven for about 2 minutes, in a household oven for about 7 – 10 minutes.
